clay

Handbuilding using porcelain and deep red clay bodies is a great way to be stuck in the moment while bringing a sketchbook drawing from its flat paper space into a three dimensional place. I make decorative pieces and beads as well as some functional pieces.

I enjoy the visibility of the hand inherent in pinching and coiling, and prefer this to the more polished form and surface of wheel thrown pieces, though I do appreciate these too.

Certain clays are more pliant to work with than others and I continue to explore this medium. While it is exciting to grow in this area, it is also pretty mysterious as I am continually learning that the unpredictable nature of glazing and firing to specific cone temperatures introduces a chaos that kind of mirrors life itself, whoa.
